Youth Volunteer Program with Shelter Dogs

STAR (Socialization & Training for Adoption Readiness) is an educational volunteer program where youth learn fun basic dog training and handling while helping our pups get adopted earlier!

Every Saturday: 8:30 a.m. sharp to 10:00 a.m.

10 years and older. Free. No preregistration or application- just drop by! Liability waiver required, below.

You'll have fun- the dogs will have more!

Youth volunteers develop skills for handling and training dogs, understanding behaviors and methods to work with them, and teamwork with others in the program. The program is taught by our excellent Behavioral Specialist.

Our dogs get the huge benefits of love and attention, enrichment time out of their kennels, and training that helps them get adopted earlier!

Every week is a new program and a chance to learn and love a dog! Parents are welcome to stay or drop off and pick up at designated times.

Other Opportunities for Youth Volunteering

Youth under 18 can also volunteer outside of the STAR program in our many volunteer roles throughout Haven.

Volunteers age 10-15 must work alongside a parent or guardian (18+) who must also go through volunteer training. Volunteers 16-17 years old may volunteer without an adult on site if a parent/guardian signs a liability waiver.
